I Love Mark Zuckerberg! (and that other guy too.)
Why do I love Mark Zuckerber and that other guy, I think his name is Eduardo Something? Because they invented Facebook. You might have heard about it. It’s a place where we can show people what we are eating. It’s a place where we can post selfies of our duck face. It’s a place where we can fight about our political views. It’s a place we can spend hours and hours on and get absolutely nothing done. It’s the social network that really started the social network craze. Whether that was for the good or evil of society is another topic we can fight about on it.
Sounds like I am kinda of being cynical doesn’t it? Well maybe a little bit. Hey, I use FB on a daily basis. It’s great in some ways and not great in others. So why am I professing my love for the guys that invented it? For one simple reason. Last weekend, FB made it possible for an amazing thing to happen to me and Mark and Ed will always have my gratitude for that!
A couple of years ago I made a post in my series of 642 things to write about. The link to the full post is here if you want to read it but below is a screenshot of the relevant part.
Last weekend she didn’t show up on my doorstep to tell me she hates my guts. She showed up as a Facebook friend request to tell me she had just read the letter that I wrote for her 24 years ago and she wanted to get to know me! How amazing is that? I am over the moon! I have been wanting this to happen for so long and now it has!
Her name is Hannah and we have been spending the last several days getting to know each other. My whole being is flush with emotions. We laugh when we find out something we have in common. I am relieved to know that she has had a great life. I am grateful to her mother for keeping that letter safeguarded all these years. We are taking it slow so neither one of us gets overwhelmed. I talked to her on the phone for the first time last night and I was a nervous wreck but it was great! I’m so looking forward to the journey of discovery we are going to have together. Thank you Hannah for not hating me! Thank you Hannah for allowing me into your life!
Oh! I’m getting a message from her. I have to go!

OMG…. I’m squealing and doing the happy dance for you! That’s so amazing.
We all rail against social media, but it’s stories like yours that make the political crap and endless self help posters worth enduring.
So pleased for you both.
Enjoy every moment!!!
💕
Thanks! I’ve been doing the happy dance for like four days straight. It’s great when social media actually produces something positive.
That is just too wonderful for words. I’m so happy for you!
Thanks Barbara! I keep saying the same thing over and over but it truly is amazing!

This is the news that has made my day. Congrats on the reunion! ❤️
See ya on Facebook. 😉
Hey Tom. I had to rescue your comment from my fickle spam filter. Thanks! It has been an exciting time.
Oh wow! I’m so happy for you!! How wonderful to be able to meet your daughter after all these years and be able to have a positive experience. Truly happy for you.
Thank you. It is wonderful!
For some reason (actually several reasons, but I won’t go into that) I kept putting off reading this until this morning and…wow. That is absolutely fantastic news. I am so happy for you and Hannah, and her mother.
Also I will never tell you your writing sucks. Only a good writer could come up with a phrase like “a container full of annelids that’s about to be unlocked”.

Maybe you put it off because of the title? It’s been a dream come true and I was beginning to wonder if it ever would. Also, thank you for pumping up my ego as you so often do!
I am full-on ugly crying. What a beautiful story and congratulations to you both!
Thank you! What’s interesting is I have a partial post in my drafts folder where I wrote about the events involved in making the difficult decision to give her up for adoption. I started it months before she contacted me. Funny how things work out sometime.
