Holding Out For A Hero
Last weekend I got to meet one of my heroes! It wasn’t an actor, singer, or reality star. It wasn’t even one of the people that are the real heroes like firefighters, medical professionals, or the majority of good policeman. She is just my hero. If it hadn’t been for her, I wouldn’t be posting anything right now because I wouldn’t have a blog. If that had been the case, then I am also more than certain I never would have written and published a book. Is the suspense killing you? OK, I’ll tell you. I got to meet the fantastical former blogger Linda aka HalfA1000Miles aka Carolina First!
Back in 2016 when I finally got up the courage to establish this small cog of a blog, I shortly encountered all kinds of frustration trying to set it up, get it working smoothly, and maintaining it. I very nearly just chucked the whole thing after only a few posts. If it hadn’t been for Carolina I am sure I would have. Not only were her posts hilarious! She responded to my litany of questions with patient answers when some of the other bloggers I asked seem to guard the secrets to their blogs like the crown jewels.
You may wonder why I call her Carolina First when her real name is Linda. One of the first blog posts I read from her had a picture of a bank card that said CAROLINA FIRST. Since there was no other name (I think she had blanked it out) I assumed that was her name when it was actually just the bank’s motto or something. We had a good laugh at that and I just decided to keep calling her that.
She’s also the one that inspired my tag line “slightly dickish” when she made me the slightly dickish customer representative of her blog. I was very sad when her blog went dark several years ago, but she had some good personal reasons for doing so. She still drops by every now and then to drop a comment on me and I always treasure those times. Meeting her, her husband Blake, and her dogs, Layla and Murphy was a delight! Thanks for being my hero Carolina!
P.S. emelle, if you are reading this; nah nah nah! I met her first! 🙂

My first time meeting a fellow blogger IRL! How did you get to meet so many? I almost got to meet Chris from Free Thinkers Anonymous and Rebecca from Wild Sensibility but last minute travel changes prevented it.
Awwwww, bless your baby ole heart. I started reading it and was ready to hear all about you meeting your hiking hero. So I was very floored.
You’re very sweet and very talented and I loved meeting you IRL, along with that enormous monstrosity you brought along. And y’all were zero dickish 🙂

Ha! I thought I might get you with that opening. It was great meeting you. Mr. First was also a pleasure to converse with. Now if I could just get you blogging again! 🙂
How fun is that!
Mega fun! I’d like to meet you too, but you know…
Me too!
How wonderful that your travels are managing to get you face to face with all these formerly anonymous people!
Keep checking back in periodically to let us all know how you’re getting along – and to let Michelle know that we’re all thinking about her as well. And the dogs.
It’s a blast and one day when we decide to head to The Keys maybe we can meet you along the way Barbara!
Lost of testing going on lately but I a scheduled for my first treatment next week. Things are going according to plan so far!
Fingers crossed, and wishing you good luck and few repercussions from the tests!
Aww, this is beautiful, Ari. What a blessing that you were able to finally meet in person! Thank god for her, she helped bring you to us. Yay! I hope you are doing well, my friend and keeping up your spirits. No doubt this visit helped. 🤗
Thanks! It’s one advantage to our mobile lifestyle for sure. We are eventually going to get back out to Vancouver so I’ll let you know when we do!
Please do!! 😃
I’m kind of jealous of Linda because she got to meet you, but really I just think it’s cool when bloggers get to meet. It’s a rare but wonderful occurrence. And Linda’s blog may have gone dark but the silver lining to that cloud is she inspired you to start this one, so her influence lives on.

One of these days I’m going to get to meet you and then you can be jealous of yourself. I don’t know if you saw up in the comments but last year I was poised to see if you wanted to meet up when we were going through Tennessee. Unfortunately, a last minute change of destination required us to blow right through Memphis in order to get there on time.
Hmmph. I notice you did not say you were jealous of Lee for meeting me.
Well I never, hahahahaha
